Gemma Lee is an award-winning director who’s work is typified by a distinct visual style and strong storytelling instincts. She captures real life through a cinematic lens, turning the ordinary into something transcendent. It’s evocative and emotional, engaging the viewer on a deeper level, lingering in the memory.

Gemma’s body of work is incredibly diverse and started when she emigrated from the Scotland to Australia, graduating from the Victorian College of The Arts with a Masters in Filmmaking. Her graduating short film, ‘Heaven’, which she wrote, directed and edited, garnered her several university and industry awards. More success quickly followed and her second short film, ‘The Wake’, screened at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in New York, where it was nominated for the ‘Jury Prize’, as well as Palm Springs International Shortfest, where it was voted ‘Best of the Fest’

She began directing music videos for Sony BMG, Universal and EMI and quickly became known as one of the hottest rising talents in Australia. Soon the commercial world came calling and she began directing spots for both the Australian and US markets, notably for Lexus, Humira, Pandora, The Australian Defence Force, Mitsubishi, HTC, RAM, Tampax and Tourism NSW. She has worked with some of the top creative agencies in the world, such as Ogilvy, Leo Burnett, Clemenger, TBWA, JWT, Y&R and M&C SAATCHI.

Her work is renowned for combining striking visuals with an emotional authenticity. As a filmmaker, she is able to combine her natural creative instincts, artistic training and love of storytelling.
